S.L.A.M. is Save Live Australia’s Music, a non-politically aligned, independent entity made up of musicians and music-lovers. They might not be great at grammar, but they front an important cause.
On 23 February, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of AC/DC’s famous It’s A Long Way To The Top film clip shoot down Swanston Street, S.L.A.M. protested in support and celebration of Victoria’s music scene, where new liquor licensing laws threaten to pull the plug on live music.
Along with our fine selves, big Melbourne music icons like Paul Kelly, Clare Bowditch, Missy Higgins, Dan Sultan, Paris Wells, Micheal Gudinszki and Paul Dempsy all turned up to show their support.

The 2010 Brit Awards took place over night, with Lady Gaga taking home the most awards for her album The Fame.
To me, the Brits are pretty much the only music awards ceremony worth watching, this year they delivered with some amazing performances.
The top picks were-
Florence + The Machine and Dizzee Rascal
Lady Gaga
Lilly Allen
Best Outfit – She is nuts, but we love her.

Passion Pit are in the country at the moment for the Big Day Out festivals and a few small sideshows. Playing at the Corner on a Monday night would usually have a somewhat quiet and small atmosphere but the draw of Passion Pit’s iconic sound sold out the venue in 10min.
Opening their set with an atmospheric build of electronic synths and drums, straight away the energy in the room flourished with excitement.
Ripping through their big Hits, The Reeling, Little secrets and Smile Upon Me there was much dancing and singing along to be had. It was Moth’s Wings surprisingly which actually got the crowd going the most. Finishing with Sleepyhead the set left everyone in a good mood.
Overall passion pit produced a compelling and experimental set . I was surprised to see how well their live set up worked, the sound was impeccable and it was nice how all the electronic sounds weren’t just played on a computer.
Reminiscent of The Rapture, The Presets and PTY LTD, Passion Pit has a great live show.
Well worth checking out if you get the chance.

The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Melbourne gig at the Forum has been long-awaited and these american rock god’s delivered.
Karen O’s endless energy was amazing. She had at least three costume changes. A friend who has been working with the group told me when she was loading gear that KarenO had a whole pallet dedicated to wardrobe. Awesome.
The best thing was that the whole band were all clearly having a rad time. Brian was grinning like a madman, Nick was sporting his usual unreadable facial expression but was jerking around more violently than usual. When they played Cheated Hearts KarenO got people in the crowd to do the oooo ohhhh. Pretty funny.
They played for about an 1hr 20min but a few people felt there were a few songs missing from the perfect set list, Warrior, Phenomena and Turn Into.
Overall a triumphant return for the much hyped Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
YYY Your welcome back anytime.
